OK, it's Saturday night and I'm homebound. Gonna be takin care of some long put off tasks and listening to some music to soothe my soul. Anyone else in the same boat? What are you listening to this fine evening to set the mood? Just finished up some Paco De Lucia and may move onto some Cape Cod 10/27/79 since it's been talked about alot recently.

"On the keyboards Mr. Chuck Leavell, on bass Mr. Lamar Williams, on the drums Mr. Butch Trucks, on guitar and vocals Mr. Richard Betts, on the drums Mr. Jaimoe, on organ, guitar, and vocals Mr. Gregg Allman. Out of Macon, Georgia, the Allman Brothers!"

Allman Brothers on New Years Eve 1974 at the Cow Palace. Jerry, Billy, and Boz Scaggs all come in near the end of the show to help the boys celebrate. It's a great show, though. Half hour Les Brers in A Minor going into a 12 minute Whipping Post jam, which is where Jerry and Billy come in. You can get it on Wolfgang's Vault or here: [...]

Hope i don't offend, but can't seem to stop listening to George Thorogood, a concert from 1978. Sure, it's not Jerry or Duane or whatever other noted guitarist currently in vogue among those who know, but it's the blues however you want to slice it up. However, i do have a bit of GD lined up for later on ...

8/6/74 - We just got Donna-ed. Ouch. All is well otherwise. Gonna grill some steak and whip-up a garlic-mash and a nice veggie.

Hey Man! Anytime is the right time. C'mon over.

Addition - We've decided the veggie will be zucchini and beer will likely be consumed. Any complaints?

Additional Addition - It's 1725 here and our 1.5 year old has JUST started sleeping in his own bed(last Sunday was the 1st night, it's a process), which he'll be doing by 1930. This will be the 1st quiet Saturday night here in nearly 2 years. WOW! Last night was the 1st Friday, but our older one was running a high fever which is now gone. YAHOO! Can you feel my joy?!

I saw ol' Lonesome George back when I was in high school; he rolled through town in '83 or '84. The Destroyers made one hell of a racket for such a sparse outfit. Not much virtuosity (as you note) but a lot of sweaty fun none the less.

I'm in between board games with the family but I've got 11/2/85's second set on tap for my late-night listening.

Ya, well i confess, my older sister has been calling me a "loser" since way back. I've long since let it slide right off me and have grown very comfortable in my skin thank you very much!

Doing just fine. By the way, don't think i told you that around four years ago, thinking i had reams of knowledge about books, music, and related interests, i actually applied for a job at Borders. Didn't get the job. Didn't have enough tattoos or body adornments. Ahh, just as well, i've never been much good at dealing with the "public".

I received Dick's Picks #28 today so I'll be listening to Purshing Municipal Auditorium, Lincoln Nebraska 2/26/73 and Salt Palace, Salt Lake City, Utah 2/28/73. I chose this Picks for its song lists. No pigpen but Jerry,Bobby, and Donna sound great. I like the singing voices of teh Dead the most so I prefer to listen to early seventies shows and studio recordings.

I haven't listened to DP-28 yet, but it sounds like you've locked in on one hell of a month. I haven't given '73 as much play-time as I should have--something I'm in the process of rectifying.

If you haven't already, definitely check out 2/9 & 2/15/73. Frigging monster shows.

Hey Thankx, Both shows have a good set list and from what I listened to, both shows have good clear sound, strong vocals, and solid instrumentation. I will enjoy listening to them both.

By the way, do you know a show that has Jerry singing "I Will Take You Home?" I'm about to post the question but if you know please recommend a show to find this song. Thank you again.

Jim

I'm homebound on a Saturday night, and with more than just a touch of grey growing out of this skull, I actually consider myself to be a winner to have such comfort at this stage in my life. Goddamn, will I declare that I pissed away too many years, one more Saturday night after another, chasing some elusive satisfaction that I just couldn't get. In here it's warm, I've got music, I can smell the supper my wife is cooking behind me in the kitchen, and the kids are actually playing quietly, for a change, in the next room.

Nope, mister, I'd say all the losers are out at the bars and elsewhere, drinking themselves into a stupor, and acting like a bunch of total dickheads. Been that, done there. This is much better.

But a good version of Loser might sound pretty good.

Hit the nail on the head. I use the word loser tounge in cheek here. I too am in a place in my life I never dreamed about 20 years ago. In my case though I'm more on the other end. Oldest son is in the military (as you may know from earlier posts) in Florida and my daughter is 18 and mobile (not home much, but what teenager with a car and a job is?). Was a hell of a journey getting to a point where I actually love a quiet Saturday night at home, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

A perfect night for me is staying home, listening to my music, drinking beer, and cooking good food. My friends are always hungry, so I at least have lots of company. Last night we were up till 4am. Ouch, my liver hurts.

The only problem with Thorogood is that he doesn't have enough drinking songs.

Kidding aside, I saw him in Springfield in the mid 80's and he was very good.
